XA Secure, a fast growing security solutions company focused on big data, announced today that it has joined the Hortonworks Technology Partner Program. Hortonworks is a leading commercial vendor promoting the innovation, development and support of Apache Hadoop. The Hortonworks Data Platform is a 100 percent open source platform powered by Apache Hadoop, which makes Hadoop easy to consume and use in enterprise environments.
XA Secure is focused on making the adoption of big data tools such as Hadoop more secure. The team at XA Secure has built a comprehensive security framework, enabling enterprises adopting Hadoop to easily manage policies centrally, and provide capabilities for fine grained access control, deeper auditing, reporting and compliance conformance among other areas.
Big data security paradigm
Enterprises globally have come to realize the power of “big data” and are embracing platforms such as Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) that harnesses the power of Apache Hadoop in storing and processing massive amounts of disparate data. While enterprises are creating large data hubs to gather deeper insights on their data, they are also encountering unique challenges from a data security viewpoint. Business owners still need to own and control access to their data, and information which was previously in silos now co-exists with other data, presenting a security risk.
XA Secure is trying to solve these challenges by building a security layer on top of the Hadoop stack to enable business owners to easily control their data in the platform, provide or revoke permissions at resource level, enable tools for auditors to monitor privileged resource access and provide reporting for compliance conformance and other purposes.
“The work being done by XA Secure to add security within Hadoop furthers our mutual efforts towards enterprise adoption of Hadoop,” said John Kreisa, vice president of strategic marketing at Hortonworks. “Information security teams can use XA Secure’s solution to create and manage their company security policies centrally, decentralize data ownership, and use audit data for compliance requirements.”
“Hadoop is the most prevalent platform for enterprises looking to process structured and unstructured data and it has been our core focus area” said Balaji Ganesan, President, XA Secure. “We have built our product, ground up, to handle the unique architecture of Hadoop. Our partnership with Hortonworks enables us to extend our product over the leading Hadoop platform and adapt our platform to the tools being built by Hortonworks and the Apache community.”
